A well considered conversion of an existing garage in the grounds of a Grade II listed Victorian villa located in a conservation area to form a single storey, 2 bed, garden dwelling.

The design evolved from close collaboration with the client, consideration for the aesthetics and context of the villa and relevant planning policies. It draws form and materiality from the main house but does not copy it.

Living spaces with large openings were located to the garden elevation to take advantage of the views of the garden. Sunlight was maximised by the use of a roof lantern. There are low level strip windows from the kitchen and shower room to allow views onto and better acknowledge the Grade II listed wall. The elevation to the garden is of stone walling to soften this elevation and create more of a relationship with the garden.
